Focusing on contemporary expressionist portraiture, Jesse engages with the portrait in order to deconstruct it via distortions of form, color and composition. By this, the artist seeks to reveal how identity is translated from subjective experience to visual representation.

Jesse Ross is a large scale oil painter working on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Jesse’s focus is on the ways in which we, as individuals and communities, construct and reinforce our sense of Self and Other. He will be working towards his MFA as of fall 2022.
