Happily Ever After is a collection of illustrations that twist the traditional representation of Disney Princesses. The series incorporates my personal motivations of challenging the conformist and conventional aesthetic standards that are often appreciated in a more conservative culture. Besides, the aesthetics embedded in the images would defy the traditional values imposed by the patriarchal society, which more often appreciates a modest and tamed character.

Yusha Zheng is a Chinese illustrator and artist currently based in Vancouver, BC. She is usually into representations that juxtapose the cute and the grotesque, the sweet and the dark. Her illustrations are often related to appearances in her dreams, nightmares, and her daily experiences of sleep paralysis. Yusha’s works are also occasionally inspired by subjects relevant to her cultural background, including feminism and sex minorities in China. She mainly works digitally but also enjoys traditional mediums such as watercolour and acrylic. Apart from (or actually during) creating art, she is always listening to Disney music, watching Disney movies, and planning her next trip to Disney World.
