High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is a polymer derived from petroleum. High-Density Polyethylene is a thermoplastic, meaning it can be re-melted. HDPE plastic is used in a wide variety of applications, including plastic bottles, milk jugs, shampoo bottles, bleach bottles, and piping. It can be identified by the recycling number 2.

Plastic for this project was collected directly from Emily Carr University and Reclaim Plastics.

Resources:

HDPE has a very low melting temperature of 135 Degrees celsius and a decomposition temperature of 335 degrees. For my project I used a repurposed t-shirt press to melt shredded plastic into various objects.

Even though this is a safe process below the decomposition range, a well ventilated space is recommended.
